BOOK 1 Tactic 6:

Holiday says, “For Media that lives and dies by clicks it all comes down to the headline. It’s what catches the attention of the public-yelled by a newsboy or seen on a search engine.” Bloggers are constantly competing for their story to surpass other bloggers’. We live in a world that desperately needs context and authority. The competition being produced by bloggers is leading them to bring out fake news or just create a headline that will sell. A headline must be appalling and catchy to sell and win the fight for attention. As Gabriel Snyder, of TheAtlantic.com, put it: headlines are “naked little creatures that have to go out into the world to stand and fight on their own.” They’re so desperate to win this fight, they don’t care whether the article is true or not. If you can create a worthy headline for it, blogs with publish anything.

BOOK 2 XVIII: The Iterative Hustle

Holiday devotes extra time today fixing incorrect stories than he does trying to generate the news. Bloggers publish first and fact check and validate later. Iterative journalism relies mainly on rumors, buzz and inquiries. Media tends to distribute rumors right away while they see if there is anything more to the story. This is how fake news and false information spreads rapidly. They do the slightest bit of research and tend to post what they hear immediately which leads to rumors and useless information to be spread. Iterative journalists report whatever news they’ve heard as news, and once actual facts are discovered they alter their article with the correct news.
